Our Gypsy Story

Hey! I'm Stephanie Dey and my beautiful little sidekick is my daughter, Jahla. We're on Our Gypsy Adventure of a lifetime, traveling the world with no set plans, other than to experience as much as we can of what this world has to offer.

Our adventure together started in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 4 years ago when my husband and I adopted Jahla at 3 months old. As I held her in my arms for the first time, I fell crazy in love with this little human and at the same time, I knew with total certainty that our life would never fall into the 'normal' category (whatever that is!). Jahla's dad and I were living in the middle east at the time and unfortunately, we reached a point where we knew that our relationship worked better as friends, than it did as husband and wife. With my ex's blessing, Jahla and I returned to our home in Perth where I worked full time as a hairdresser.

One day it hit me that whilst I've travelled a lot internationally over the last decade, I have seen very little of the country I spent most of my childhood in - Australia (I was born in and lived in Scotland until I was 7 years old). I had also just finished reading Rolf Pott's- 'Vagabonding' and suddenly started questioning the way we were living; working full time meant that I was unable to spend nearly as much time with Jahla as I wanted to and I felt personally unfulfilled and restless. Subconsciously, I was waiting to meet a prince charming who would sweep me off my feet and at that point, I thought I would really start living. I had reached the point though, where I was sick and tired of waiting for prince charming and I was wasting precious time, when I could be really living my life RIGHT NOW

I decided to take the plunge. I quit my job, sold most of our belongings, packed our car with our essentials, a tent and my meager savings and set off. It was daunting at first, but we've opened our hearts and our minds to the possibilities and adventures out there and so far the universe has provided us with some amazing adventures!

We're enjoying sharing these experiences together and also with you, through this website, our blogFacebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. We hope you enjoy following along with us and and we also hope that we might inspire some of you reading along at home, to open your hearts and minds to the adventures that can be found, if you throw caution to the wind and just embrace what life has to offer!

UPDATE: We have now found ourselves living and loving life in Ubud, Bali. Jahla attends school here and I work with coaching clients and run retreats around the globe!
